QuickBooks alternative

A QuickBooks alternative for people who don't need to keep books.

QuickBooks is real accounting software, and if you need a ledger and financial statements it earns its price. If you are on Simple Start mostly to send invoices and chase them, you are paying accounting money for an invoicing job. StitchInvoice does that job — with quote sign-off, per-client memory and automatic follow-up — for $0 to $19.

Credit where it is due

What QuickBooks is for.

QuickBooks is the accounting standard for a reason: a proper double-entry ledger, bank feeds and reconciliation, tax-ready categories, P&L and balance sheet, and the format your accountant already works in. If you need your books kept, this is not the tool to move away from.

The honest split

Keep the books. Move the client-facing part.

Keep in QuickBooks

  • The ledger, bank reconciliation and journal entries
  • Tax categories and year-end financial statements
  • Anything your accountant expects to see in QuickBooks

Move to StitchInvoice

  • Quotes and estimates a client signs before work starts
  • Invoices checked against each client's billing rules
  • Automatic before-due and overdue follow-up
  • Clean CSV export back to your books

Which one fits

A decision, not a pitch.

Stay on QuickBooks if you

  • Need to keep your own books in the tool
  • Run bill pay, inventory, or multi-account bookkeeping
  • Your accountant works directly in your QuickBooks file

Switch the invoicing to StitchInvoice if you

  • Only really use QuickBooks to send and chase invoices
  • Want a quote signed off and per-client rules remembered
  • Would rather pay $0–$19 than $38 for the part you use

Questions

Common questions.

Is StitchInvoice a QuickBooks replacement?

Not for the accounting. QuickBooks keeps your books — double-entry ledger, reconciliation, tax categories, financial statements — and StitchInvoice does not try to. It replaces the client-facing part: quoting, getting a quote signed, invoicing, following up, and getting paid.

Can I use both?

Yes, and many people should. Run StitchInvoice for the quote-to-paid workflow, keep QuickBooks (or hand your accountant a clean export) for the books. The point is not paying the Simple Start price for features you touch once a quarter.

How much cheaper is it?

QuickBooks Simple Start is around $38/month, and even QuickBooks now sells a separate $20 "Solopreneur" tier because Simple Start is more than many solo businesses need. StitchInvoice has a $0 Starter plan and a flat $19/month Professional.

What does StitchInvoice do that QuickBooks invoicing does not?

A client can approve and sign a quote or estimate from their link before work starts, and it converts straight into an invoice. Each client's billing requirements — PO numbers, CC rules, preferred currency, submission windows — are remembered and checked against the document before it sends. And the follow-up sequence is built in, not something you set up rule by rule.

Will my accountant be okay with this?

StitchInvoice exports your invoices, payments and clients as clean CSVs, and there is a free read-only accountant workspace. It is designed to hand off tidy data, not to be the system of record for your books.

Why not just use QuickBooks for everything?

If you genuinely need the accounting, do. But QuickBooks is built for bookkeeping first, and its invoicing reflects that — no approval step, no per-client requirement memory, reminders configured one at a time. If invoicing and getting paid is the actual job, a tool built for that does it more thoroughly and costs less.
