What to include

What actually belongs on an invoice.

An invoice number that never repeats, so nothing gets paid twice by mistake

Issue date and a clear due date; "Net 30" only works if the client can see the actual date it maps to

Line items with quantity and rate shown separately, not just a lump total

Tax and shipping broken out on their own lines if they apply

Payment terms and accepted methods, stated once, not buried in a footer

A reference to the PO number if your client requires one to pay at all

Not sure which document you need

Invoice vs. receipt.

An invoice requests payment that hasn't happened yet. A receipt confirms payment that already has. If money hasn't changed hands, you want an invoice, and StitchInvoice generates the receipt automatically the moment it's marked paid, so you never create one by hand.

Questions

Common questions about invoices.

How long should invoice payment terms be?

Net 14 and Net 30 are the most common. Shorter terms tend to get paid faster on average, and StitchInvoice tracks this per client, so you can see what actually works for each one rather than guessing from convention.

What happens if a client misses the due date?

The invoice status updates automatically, and Autopilot can send a reminder sequence (before the due date, on it, and after) so chasing payment isn't something you have to remember to do manually.

Can I turn an accepted quote into an invoice?

Yes. An accepted quote converts directly into an invoice without re-entering the client, line items, or terms.

Keep your invoices with the clients they belong to.

We built this as a workspace, not a one-off file generator. Create the document, keep the history, and reuse the details next time.
